Strengthening local coordination to ensure a coherent and effective survivor-centered response to GBV

Following the dissolution of Iraq’s national UN cluster system in 2022, and its’ transition to a development designation, the GBV SCG was established to enable members to address remaining humanitarian and protection needs while spearheading the formation of a new, innovative, and sustainable approach to ensure long-term and effective management and coordination of GBV response in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.


The GBV SCG, co-led by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and SEED, provides strategic guidance and support to four voluntary governorate-level Working Groups (WGs) established in Erbil, Duhok, Sulaimani, and Halabja.

Objectives

The SCG is committed to combating GBV and strengthening protections for survivors and others at risk by improving the quality, effectiveness, and accountability of the GBV response, through three key objectives:
